Brelyon

Beyond screens, into the metaverse

Brelyon is an MIT spin-off introducing the first-ever, headset-free virtual display for gaming, entertainment, and enterprise applications. The technology uses novel physics with optical and computational techniques to create true depth and panorama, replicating a cinema-like experience in a 32” monitor form factor. Our goal is to provide display solutions that elevate your experience with computers.

Our team

We’re a team of scientists, technologists, and misfits on a mission to liberate the world from flat screens and advance humanity to an age of visual abundance.

Scientific activities

Brelyon’s mission is to use cutting-edge innovation in physics and computer sciences along with human psychophysics to craft a high-bandwidth visual experience with computers. We are highly active in engineering societies and publish in scientific journals for a selected set of topics that we think pushes the community forward. We are active in a variety of scientific conferences and societies including SID, Optica SV/ OSA, SPIE and NTSA.

Frequently asked questions

What is the technology behind Brelyon displays? Is it 3D?

At a macro level, it's a combination of electro-optics and novel optical systems with computational/rendering techniques. At a micro level, it's all about the purity of the wavefront and mapping wavefront engineering to human eye perception cues. This requires engineering surfaces and considering light-matter interaction at a microscopic level. The current Ultra Reality product is not an autostereoscopic 3D display; the depth is monocular with a curvature profile that conforms to the human depth horopter (curvature of the human eye). Because of that monocular depth, some scenes appear to have a 3D effect. Monocular depth is usually provided in flat layers or profiled focal planes. In some ways, it’s like a sound system, where what Brelyon provides is like the subwoofer for depth while the conventional stereo 3D provides the tweeter of depth.
